TANGS at VivoCity Welcomes You Home
Following a large-scale revamp since October 2022, TANGS at VivoCity makes a long-awaited return!
The new iteration of Level One places sustainability and accessibility at the forefront, and features a curated collective of family favourites tailored to both the young and young-at-heart. Guided by TANGS’ time-honoured values, the in-house retail team designed a joyful space to bring people together too.
Boasting more than 50,000 sq ft of space, the two-storey playground places the shopper’s experience at its heart. Spanning 40 metres wide, the relocated entrance at Lobby R on Level One has doubled in size—maximising space for ease of movement and bringing the store closer to neighbouring cafés.
Visitors are instantly granted a spectacular front-row view of the store, with widened pathways that heighten visibility and enhance access. From the start, an open invitation is extended to crowds from all walks of life.
As you can see from the above picture, the new entrance is also clad entirely in a contemporary brown gloss paint and illuminated by the vibrant TANGS logo above — a familiar sight to behold. At a glance, the new floor might look and feel wholly different. The harmony of organic curved forms, strong linear elements and softer cove lighting lends it a subtle fluidity that appeals to the modern eye. Still, it preserves fond facets of local culture: Grilles line the exterior, adding rustic intrigue with a metallic finish.
Merging a locally relevant design vocabulary with an underlying aesthetic consistency, the team takes cues from the old store’s original charm while looking through the lens of sustainability. The new space draws on regenerative principles — with circularity in mind, materials are maintained, repaired and upcycled.
“On the whole, we want customers to feel a sense of belonging when they enter the space. Along with urban touches to existing structures, we repurposed furniture and fixtures to stay true to our roots. It’s a blissful marriage of past and present,” says Seah Siew Mei, the store design manager who oversaw the revamp.
Considering the intricate needs of the shopper, the team undertakes a strategic approach to reorganising the retail space. The new floor is sensitively rendered to embrace a minimal layout, where sections are separated by flexible frames and clear walkways. Visitors are encouraged to roam freely and transition with ease within the communal setting. At every corner, there’s something for the whole family: TANGS Kids is nestled between both Men’s and Women’s.
Altogether, the new floor makes shopping easier for all — highlighting an extensive product range by way of functional elegance. “Long before we were omnichannel, we recognised the importance of making space for physical, in-person connections. TANGS has always been the place where generations gather to shop and make memories. Through the details, we built on sentimental layers to put together a cosy experience for all.” Siew Mei added.
A Hybrid Of Adventures
Ignite creative sparks at the new TANGS Kids: An escapade for both the young and young-at-heart.
Foregrounded by a playful palette of pastels, the intimate space lights up with character and injects an energetic dose of joie de vivre to the store. From top to bottom, find little surprises against the norm: Cascading leaves, trunk-like pillars and silhouettes of a soothing canopy — resembling a mini forest to explore. Fostering curiosity and exploration, it’s a welcome retreat where all can learn through play.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Level One take on a new look, along with the exciting showcases of brands at every turn,” says Salamah, a retail associate who has been with the store for 15 years.
Expect personalised shop-in-shop concepts across all categories, with colourful collages specially curated by every brand. Unique collections take centre stage in each interactive zone, and visitors get to see, test and experience — to their heart’s content.
Shopping at TANGS is a familial tradition and shared pastime. Shoppers can enjoy a curated collective of family-favourite brands and products on the new Level One, and all home essentials — quality bed linen, exquisite tableware, and more on Level Two.
Clarins’ updated counter sports a new look: Designed with eco-consciousness in mind, the brand builds their first department-store French Botanist Hub — incorporating materials from all-natural and renewable sources into its new interior at TANGS. Beauty enthusiasts also get to discover a wonderland of mainstays from Albion, Lancôme, M.A.C., and SK-II, as well as mesmerising fragrances from Giorgio Armani Beauty, and YSL Beauty.
Trendsetters will find the latest from American Tourister, Braun Buffel, Lojel, PleatsMama, Forever New, TOMS, Marhen J, and Yacht 21.
