Geylang Serai Festive Light-Up 2021

There’s no hipster food bazaar, but Geylang Serai festive light-up 2021 still provides for a charming evening walk.

Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting is here. With that, Geylang Serai once again comes alive with dazzling decorations and geometric light-art.

It’s a poignant experience strolling under this year’s lights, to be honest. Regrettably, the illuminations and Ramadan bazaar were the main festive casualties last year when Singapore went into semi-lockdown. While the lights are back this year, there’s still no massive hipster food market and festive goods stalls. It’s just the lights and those only.

There’s solemn contemplation involved here; how the combined efforts of the whole world aren’t enough to put one virus in its place.

That said, I suppose there’s no reason to be too despondent. Anyhow, self-reflection is encouraged during Ramadan? I’m not Muslim, but I’d be thinking about how life would be, should be, down the road.

Geylang Serai Lights 2021

Wisma Geylang Serai Ramadan 2021
I started my evening at Wisma Geylang Serai, and of course, there are decorations surrounding the complex.
The same motifs are used for the street lights, but if you wish to examine any up close, here’s the place.
Hari Raya Light Up 2021
The Joo Chiat Complex junction. Nasty of me to say it, but without the yearly crowds from the Ramadan bazaar, this was much more enjoyable to photograph.
Hari Raya Geylang Serai 2021
My favourite shot for this Geylang Serai visit. “Tunnels of lights” never fails to uplift me.
Joo Chiat Complex Ramadan Decorations
The facade decorations at Joo Chiat Complex are lovely after dark too.
Haig Road Market and Food Centre Ramadan Decorations
The festive illumination is not restricted to street illuminations or mall decorations. Here are the fairy lights outside Haig Road Market & Food Centre. (There’s a certain chaotic beauty here, LOL)
Geylang Serai Illumination 2021
Another tunnel of light shot. This one was taken at the bus stop near the food centre.
Singapore Hari Raya Puasa 2021
I’ve shown the main festive “gate” in my feature pic above. (It’s outside Paya Lebar Quarter) Here’s a closer look at it.
