Christmas in Singapore 2020

Singapore Christmas decorations 2020 Round-Up.

Quick pictorial post. Or rather, a picture clean-up post, of sorts.

I’ve been going about downtown, you see, and while at it, snapping pictures of Christmas decorations placed up by shopping malls. (There’s currently over a GB of such Xmas festive pictures on my comp.)

All decorations are decidedly less elaborate compared to last year, of course. There’s also a lack of open-air festive markets or large playgrounds for kids.

That said, it’s unfair to say there’s nothing to enjoy. Or attractive to photograph. In a way, the reversion to simpler, more traditional motifs also brings on a more traditional Yuletide feel.

Oh wait, I’ve already mentioned this several times in older posts. Let me thus save you the reading and just jump right ahead to the pictures.

Christmas in Singapore 2020

Marina Bay Sands

Let me start with glitzy Marina Bay Sands.

If I remember correctly, they started putting up their decors as early as October. There is also a festive walk of sorts at the promenade. The environmentally friendly trees used at the latter is, well, a great idea, as well as very socially conscious.

To befit the glamourous feel of MBS, their twin Christmas trees this year are like golden mountains.
Santa, in various costumes, is hard at work throughout the Shoppes.
The “Charitrees” at the promenade outside.

Suntec City

Suntec didn’t put up any massive trees this year. But they do have an Elf workshop showpiece outside one of their entrances. (The one right next to the entrance for the Esplanade MRT Station)

Elves and reindeer hard at work to fulfil Santa’s Xmas work orders. The bearded one is a real slave-driver!

Great World City

Great World City’s Christmas Tree this year is a blend of superior placement and Avant-Garde flair.

It’s the perfect Singapore Christmas decorations 2020 showpiece for a wide-angle shot!

City Square Mall

PAW Patrol from Nickelodeon takes center stage at City Square Mall this Christmas. Other than the canine heroes accompanying traditional Christmas trees and lights, there’s also a dino-themed e-hunt.

A glittering festive walk of lights greets shoppers at the main entrance of City Square Mall.
Last year’s indoor decor featured the Bare Bears. This year, it’s the search-and-rescue heroes from PAW Patrol!

Plaza Singapura

Good ol’ PS is a place dear to my heart, because my mom told me that’s the first Singaporean shopping mall I visited as a baby in the 70s, and because I took Electone lessons there for a while. (Yucks, I had one exam there too)

They don’t have much this year, though. But, hey, the decorations are themed around musical instruments! There’s even a music keyboard on display!

The keyboard looks like a Nord to me, which is kinda wrong given Yamaha an anchor tenant at PS. But oh well …

The Lego Lovers: Bugis Junction and Funan Mall

Bugis Junction and Funan Mall are both going the Lego way this festive season.

An outdoor Lego funland.

Marina Square

While it’s obviously not intended for my age group, ahem, I love the kids’ carnival feel at Marina Square.

A Magical Christmas Circus at Marina Square. (If only that Ferris Wheel gives actual rides!)

Capitol Singapore and CHIJMES

‘Right, I’ve already shown CHIJMES’ festive illumination, or artskin projection, for this year. (See above). Here’s a video clip of the actual projection.

Capitol’s historical façade lit up and adorned with stately Nutcrackers.
The festive market in the basement. A little deserted when I visited on a Tuesday, unfortunately.
And at the atrium, private dining booths?

VivoCity

Last but not least, massive VivoCity!

There’s no bouncy playground this year. But their signature HUGE outdoor Christmas tree is there. There’s also a very photogenic backdrop at the heart of their atrium.

I believe I’ve mentioned it in previous posts. I always look forward to VivoCity’s Christmas trees.
An illuminated walk. Simple and elegant.
Nutcrackers at the atrium. Nutcracker soldiers are really the preferred choice for Singapore Christmas decorations 2020, aren’t they?
Christmas is here!
