Little India Deepavali Light-Up 2020 photo essay.

Right, time for a short photo post.

It’s October and as far as the Singaporean festive calendar is concerned, that means it’s time to enjoy the twinkling lights at Little India.

Like the case for Mid-Autumn, the event wasn’t cancelled, thank goodness, though it’s subtly smaller in scale. While much of Serangoon Road is still alive with glowing colours and Rangoli patterns, the festive market at Campbell Lane is less bustling. The junction of Serangoon Road and Sungei Road/Bukit Timah Road also do not have towering mascots this year.

But, like I’ve highlighted several times on this blog, there’s “at least something” to enjoy. There are also various online and offline events scheduled. Do check these out at the official Singapore Deepavali 2020 page.

Welcoming the Festival of Lights, 2020

Like I mentioned above, there are no “mascots” this year at the start of the festive light-up. (One of last year’s peacocks is still there though when I visited, albeit unlit). The showpiece is thus the elaborate “gateway” right beside Tekka Market.

Close-up of the gateway. I think that is Goddess Lakshmi seated there, overlooking the celebrations.

At the right spots, the tunnel of lights up Serangoon Road is as mesmerising as ever.

The food stalls and festive decoration outlets at Campbell Lane aren’t entirely gone. Just fewer. (In a way, making it easier to walk down the alley too)

I took this shot near Great World City. Notice that the goddess makes a second appearance further up the road.

Further up the road, this gorgeous showpiece allows visitors plenty of close-up selfie opportunities.

Little India Deepavali 2020 light-up is ongoing till Dec 6, 2020. Visit the official page for more information on events.
