Atlas Bar | Geeky Restaurant Adventures

Atlas Bar Review
Atlus Bar Review, Singapore's most visually stunning Art Deco restaurant and bar.

Two visits to the visually magnificent Atlas Bar.

When I started this Geeky Restaurant series, Atlas Bar at Parkview Square was one of the first names that came to my mind.

You can easily guess why, yes? Within or outside the country, Atlus Bar is celebrated as one of the grandest dining establishments in Singapore. The bar, and the surrounding lobby, are also the foremost places in Singapore to enjoy 1920s Art Deco opulence.

Art Deco opulence, as in the art style forever associated with Jazz, New York, and the award-winning game series Bioshock. Hey, those of you who are gamers, remember the name of one of the main characters in the first game?

Yeah, I thought Atlas Bar would be the perfect geeky join to review.

But me being me, I never went. That is, not till last month. So as to properly enjoy the different menus and ambience, I made two visits, one at tea time and another during the evening. In summary, I would say:

  1. You really have to experience it to believe it. Entering the lobby is akin to stepping into another world, a golden one that dazzles and awes. Also, one that immediately reminded me of Jazz Age movies, the Great Gatsby, and video games.
  2. The vicinity delighted the lifelong gamer in me. Apart from the mythology-inspired murals, Parkview Square is surrounded by various avant-garde sculptures. These would all feel very at home in a Shin Megami Tensei or Persona game.
  3. The service at Atlas Bar was superb! Attentive but never intrusive, with the staff always going the extra step to be engaging. During both visits, I sat at the bar and chatted with the bartenders. These brief conversations certainly invoked many classic movie moments.

Parkview Square: Statues and Murals

Like I mentioned above, Parkview Square itself delights with its elaborate Gothic architecture and fittings.

Parkview Square, Singapore's finest Art Deco building.
Late afternoon Parkview Square.
Parkview Square Art Sculpture
One of several weird sculptures surrounding Parkview Square. (Is she the younger sibling of Maison the Portable?)
Parkview Square interior
The golden interior. Probably how Rapture, and Gotham City, would have looked like during their prime.
Parkview Square wall decoration.
My guess is that this is Atlas himself. He doesn’t look to be shrugging too.

Atlas Bar Singapore

Atlas Bar Singapore
The word magnificence isn’t enough to describe Atlas Bar, which occupies the entire elevated middle platform of the lobby.
Atlas Bar Gin Collection Tower.
Another view, with the showcase gin collection. This collection is said to contain about 1000 varieties of the beloved spirit, and is one of the largest in the world.
Parkview Square mural
One of the two ornate murals facing the bar.

The bar counter where I sat at for both visits. Think of the number of concoctions that could be created here.

Atlas Bar Singapore Food Review

Atlas Bar Menu Design.
The drinks menu contains much information for those curious about the Jazz Age and its various associated philosophies/movements. (I was strongly reminded of Civilization while reading the text)
Atlas Bar Croque Monsieur.
What I had during my afternoon teatime visit: Mini Croque Monsieur with Spanish cheese and pickled shallots. This was rich but without the cheese being overpowering. Perfectly toasted too. Yummy!
Atlas Bar Beef Short Ribs.
My main course during my dinner visit: Smoked Beef Short Rib with Kohlrabi Mash, Pickled Turnip, Kale, and Mustard Jus. You’re looking at melt in your mouth tenderness here. One that leaves a delectable smoky scent as an aftertaste. Easily, one of the best short ribs I’ve ever eaten.
Cherry, Chocolate Mascarpone Dark Crumble at Atlas Bar
My dessert during my dinner visit: Cherry, Chocolate Mascarpone Dark Crumble. This looks fanciful but the taste of the mascarpone filling was a little too on the light side for me.
Atlas Bar, Early Evening
To end, evening ambience of this spectacular Art Deco institution.

Atlas Bar is at 600 North Bridge Rd, Parkview Square, Singapore 188778.
