Traveling to the southern rim of Singapore i.e. Siloso Beach to check out Sentosa GrillFest 2018.
Hipster food events are all the rage in Singapore nowadays, with this latest one part of the weeks-long Feast at Sentosa campaign and happening at the edge of Singapore. I.E., near where I believe is still promoted as the southernmost tip of mainland Asia. (I’m not kidding)
Consisting of a kilometre-long food street flanking Siloso Beach, Sentosa GrillFest 2018 promises gourmet delights alongside live music and sea breezes. Eager to be out after being stuck at home for a few days, I decided to brave opening day crowds and to head down on the first day.
Hey, it was nowhere near as congested as I thought it would be! The food was expectedly superb and the occasional salty sea breeze rejuvenating too.

The permanent pavilions of Siloso Beach were also part of Sentosa GrillFest 2018. After checking out the entire stretch, I began my munching at the Sapphire Pavilion, which was in use by Angliss Singapore. In the event map, this location was listed as Gourmet Discovery by Angliss Singapore.

Payment System
By the way, Sentosa GrillFest 2018 uses a prepaid credit system, in the form of a paper band you could wrap around your wrist. The initial top-up is SGD 30/-, and depending on your preferred mode of payment, subsequent top-ups begin from SGD 5/-. (Minimum top-up using credit cards is 20 bucks, if I remember correctly).
Thing to note, though, there’s no refund for unused credit and so some arithmetic strategizing is necessary to avoid wastage.
In my case, having never been great at maths, I still had two bucks in me band when I left. Dumping the band was thus a little painful for me …
Food, Food, and More Food
A little bit more about the crowds before I continue, as some earlier write-ups expressed concern over whether the event would be hot and stuffy.
It did get crowded after dark but overall, it was still easy to buy from the stalls, or find seats.
Benches were everywhere and most diners didn’t linger. There being a constant breeze also meant it wasn’t warm at all. In fact, I felt my food went cold rather quickly.
To give you a clearer idea, there were these groups of Korean goddesses strutting about with TV studio degree make-up. None looked flustered to me at all. On the contrary, they seemed pretty delighted by the ambience.

Sentosa Grillfest 2018 Ambience
Apart from the food, what I enjoyed most at the GrillFest was the music. There were live performances. There were also numerous speakers throughout the whole stretch broadcasting 70s and 80s hits.

Sentosa GrillFest 2018 is ongoing till Jul 29. (Weekends i.e. Fridays to Sundays only) Admission is Free.
