As most Singaporeans would already know, Benjamin Barker Café
Burger dinner at the new Benjamin Barker Café at Cathay Cineleisure.
Update Dec 2020
As most Singaporeans would already know, Benjamin Barker Café is now The Assembly Ground. (Not sure whether it’s by the same management)
The “change” happened more than a year ago, but it took me till now to revisit. Anyhow, the ambience is the same but the menu now features far more Asian fusion dishes. Here’s what I ate when I went last week.
The Assembly Ground B Supreme Burger, with Portobello mushrooms and cheddar galore. A little too enthusiastic with the cream, IMO, but a hearty meal before The Croods 2 for me.
Last Saturday, while at Cathay Cineleisure to watch Solo: A Star Wars Story, I discovered to my surprise my favourite sit-in milkshake place is closed.
After just a few months in operation, and mere weeks after I amended the details on Google Maps, B Burger has ceased operations. In replacement is a stylish café, one’s that managed by the same owners as before i.e. menswear label Benjamin Barker.
Attracted by the cozy and jazzy décor, I immediately made plans to return early in the week to check out this new eatery.
The interior is pretty spacious and comfortable. Actually, table placements largely follow that of B Burger.Benjamin Barker Café menu. As you can see, there’s a substantial main course selection, with most dishes priced reasonably for an Orchard road eatery. There’s also a burger section.Display beside the ordering counter. This is a coffee café too so it’s natural there’s an emphasis on that. (Unfortunately, I already had too many cuppas on the day of my visit, so I settled for a fruit smoothie)
My Summertime smoothie. Made with mango, passion fruit, and Greek yogurt. I guess I need not highlight the café décor is wood-heavy, which gives the café an overall matured and classy feel.
Incidentally, Benjamin Barker is one of my favourite stores for long-sleeve shirts. The resemblance of their new café to their stores naturally generated much positive vibes for me.
The Classic Cheese Burger I ordered. This was quite a feast! The patty was juicy and tender, a delight for anyone having sudden meat cravings.Pastry counter. (Note the Asian inspirations) I didn’t have room for cakes after the burger. I’d probably try some of these on other movie nights.Benjamin Barker Café Pastry Counter.Back to the décor. I mentioned the café felt jazzy? Yeah, it’s not just because of these wall displays. The whole café has a subtle jazz café feel, not too unlike those in Japan.
Benjamin Barker Cafe is at 8 Grange Rd, #01-01, Cathay Cineleisure. Check their Facebook for opening hours.
