If you’ve lived in Singapore for any length of time, you would know that festive light-ups are cherished annual events.

America has sport matches. Japan has matsuris. Singapore has festive light-ups. Nowadays, up to seven times a year. (If you include the Night Festival, i Light, etc)

For September, the one to look forward to is the Mid-Autumn light-up. Historically, this used to be the smallest celebration, with only the main Chinatown streets decorated. In recent years, however, Gardens by the Bay has joined the fun, with their light-up now a key-event on their events calendar.

With far more space and flexibility than the Chinatown streets, I’d say the Gardens by the Bay illumination is also the one to head to when ba yue shi wu (八月十五) approaches. Over the years, the many exotic illuminations placed up have surely charmed visitors from all over the world.

Anyway, here are some early evening photos I took yesterday. Regrettably, I was rushing to get to the cinema to watch Kingsman: The Golden Circle. I didn’t stay till it was completely dark.

Naturally, these were all shot using my new D7500 too. 🙂 Shutter Priority, Dusk, and Night Landscape modes.

Cornucopias near the Dragonfly Bridge. This year’s Mid-Autumn festival celebration incorporates the western concept of autumn harvest.
Food Street next to the Supertree Grove. No self respecting festive celebration in Singapore would be without a food street! (Interestingly, there wasn’t that many mooncakes on sale)
Japanese Takoyaki. A popular street snack in Singapore nowadays.
Other “signature” Singaporean food fair snacks. I love tutu kuehs, btw. I could gobble down ten while watching a movie.
A dazzling phoenix motif.
The Arrival of the Phoenix. This was over at the main entrance.
Another view of the Phoenix tunnel.

Field of Sunshine. With Gardens by the Bay’s iconic Supertrees in the background.
Grains of Gold. Again, inspired by the concept of autumn harvest.
Auspicious carp at the Splendour of Blooms display.
The iconic supertrees lit up with dragonflies. Dragonflies are all over Gardens during this Mid-Autumn festive light-up.
Flight of the Dragonflies at the … Dragonfly Bridge.
