Popped over to Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar and Festive Light-up 2017 for a look-see.
I haven’t visited this festive celebration for seven years, not since moving away from Geylang in 2010. Lots of recent online coverage piqued my interest, though. And so I decided to head down one evening to see there how it’s like nowadays.
The verdict: it’s large. Much larger than the ones I used to stroll by. I can’t remember exactly as it’s been a while, and there have been tons of changes in the area, but I think the current bazaar covers what was once the Malay Village.
There are also long rows of stalls lining one side of Changi Road now, all the way from Haig Road to Joo Chiat Complex. Definitely some major festive preparation ongoing here!
The whole area was abuzz with activity, full of people of all ethnicities too. In other words, exactly the same as celebrations for all other Singapore festivals.

This being Singapore, food is, of course, everywhere in the bazaar. Both snacks for guests and cooked food for immediate feasting.
